Specialty - A Coffee Story
Specialty is a documentary series exploring the rich and diverse coffee culture of Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington), where coffee is much more than just a drink - it’s an art form, a community, and a way of life. The series dives deep into the lives of local baristas, roasters, café owners, and even coffee farmers, uncovering the passion, dedication, and innovation that fuel Wellington’s vibrant coffee scene.
More than just a behind-the-scenes look at coffee, Specialty is about the people who make it happen - the everyday storytellers, craftspeople, and connectors whose work touches lives and builds community. At its core, it’s a love letter to hospitality, culture, and the rituals that bring us together, one cup at a time.
For the past few years, I’ve been developing this project alongside James Ladanyi and Samuel Austin. From producing and editing to filming on location, I’ve had the joy (and challenge!) of wearing many hats - capturing candid moments behind the counter and shaping the story in post-production. Last year, we gave audiences a first taste of the series at a special Wellington On a Plate event, screening select snippets and our trailer to a full house.
We are currently in post-production, piecing the story together and bringing to screen the magic of Wellington’s coffee community.
